Iranian animation ‘Mr. Deer’ to vie at Indian fest

Iran’s animation ‘Mr. Deer’ is to compete at the Kolkata Int’l Children’s filmfest in India.

Iran’s animation ‘Mr. Deer’ has been selected to vie at the 9th Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival (KICFF) in India.

Directed by Mojtaba Mousavi, the 9-minute animation is set in an unknown time, in a ruined subway station which is similar to those in modern European societies. People in this society have animal faces and have forgotten humane values.

‘Mr. Deer’ has gone on screen at a number of international film events, including the 2018 Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, the 26th Anima Mundi Film Festival in Brazil, the 2018 Anibar International Animation Festival in Kosovo, the 2018 Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival in France, the 48th Giffoni Film Festival in Italy, the 2018 Melbourne International Film Festival in Australia, the 2018 Exground Film Festival in Germany, the 2019 FluXus Animation Film Festival in the Netherlands, and the 2019 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia in Japan.

It was awarded at the international competition section of the 36th Fajr International Film Festival in Iran, received Special Award of the 28th Zagreb Animation Festival (Animafest) in Croatia, and won a Special Award at the 10th Skepto International Film Festival in Italy.

The KICFF is an annual exclusive film festival that focuses on the interests of children.

The event encourages performing arts amongst children.

The 2020 edition of the KICFF will be held on January 19-26.
